the ladies of NCNW sign the letters of their organizationOfficially charted at FSU on September 23, 2012, the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) aims to foster and maintain a safe and inclusive community for African American women on campus and their goals are to educate, unite, & uplift women at FSU.

During these uncertain times since the university's closure due to the corona virus, NCNW has found ways to continue to stay active. Though the new member induction ceremony has been delayed until the fall, NCNW's executive board is continuing to keep in contact with their members to make sure they are okay and to see if they need anything. Elections were held virtually for next year's executive board. NCNW experienced a difficult spring semester, losing its Secretary, Donesha Chew, in a tragic car accident. As the members of the organization are very close, each was deeply impacted, as was the university, by the loss of Donesha. Her smiling face, encouragement and support will be missed by all.

For next year, NCNW would like to keep improving. Their goal is to always get better every year. They want to get more girls interested and active in NCNW so the organization can have an even larger platform to uplift and empower women all over campus. President for the 2020-2021 academic year, Lyric Mitchell, would like to build connections with all of the women in NCNW and ensure that every member can confidently walk around campus and when they see another member, Mitchell wants them to be able to proudly say "that's my N-Sister!" Mitchell wants NCNW to be more active next semester. Whether it be regarding issues on campus or out in the community, she wants NCNW to take charge and advocate for any issues the student body faces. She also wants NCNW to step up in the community and take part in more community service projects.

Lyric moves into this new role with an extremely impressive resume already. Lyric spent the 2019-2020 academic year as the Vice President of NCNW. She has been a Bobcat Ambassador since the spring of 2018, a Student Alumni Ambassador since the fall of 2018, an NCBI facilitator since the fall of 2019, a Resident Assistant since the fall of 2019 and an Inductee of the National Society of Leadership and Success in the fall of 2019. Lyric has also just been elected to the Student Government Association and was appointed as the Chairwoman of SGA's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. She enters her senior year as one of the most accomplished students on campus and is ready to do whatever it takes to help uplift the campus community!
